Royalty Free Rock Music
Need Rock Music for your Project?
Rock music is so universal; everyone knows at least one great rock song.
As it's so ingrained in popular culture throughout the world, it's no surprise it finds its way into some of the best movie soundtracks ever.
It's also no surprise that we have lots of epic rock tracks in our royalty-free music library.
What Makes Great Rock Rock Music?
Some might say it's an epic guitar solo; others might say it's a great rhythm section; our take is that it's all about the attitude.
Rockstar's don't become icons just because they can sing or play; it's because they have an aura about them that people gravitate towards.
The music itself is no different.
In most cases, music should be felt as well as heard.
That's what makes a great Rock song, a song that's more than just a catchy tune; it makes you feel alive.
All-out Action
There may be no better soundtrack than some high-adrenaline Rock music when it comes to an all-out action scene.
The point of an action scene is to have the audience on the edge of their seats. Whether it's a car chase, a jet fighter scene, or a race against time, the music has to keep up with the action.
Rock music gives you a few different ways to do that.
Starting with the rhythm section, you can have something that drives the action along like a train, seemingly heading out of control.
For a less linear action scene, something more unpredictable, a lead line from a guitar could take center stage.
The rhythm can still be the driving force, with the guitar solo creating the chaos through erratic movements or tense/dissonant target notes.
It doesn't have to be a guitar solo; we are just giving the most common example.
In an action scene, harmony might be the least important aspect of Rock music. But, there are a few chords that are just unmistakably ROCK!
One that stands out is the 7#9 chord, or its less technical name, the Jimi Hendrix chord.
Rebel Without a Cause
Going back to the attitude, Rock music is nothing if not rebellious.
From the early days of Rock n' Roll with Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis, it was the music that parents didn't want their kids to hear.
As the music developed into Rock as we know it, the rebellious reputation remained, despite being a mainstream genre.
If we were to use a simple example, Rock music isn't the quiet kid at the back of the class; it's the kid who got expelled for stealing the principles car ( Do not steal anyone's car!).
If your protagonist is a rebel, your film needs some Rock.
Rebel With a Cause
Throughout history, Rock music has been synonymous with some of the most iconic events.
From Woodstock, 1968s Chicago riots, or scenes of the Vietnam War; Rock music has been a powerful soundtrack to some unforgettable images.
The attitude that Rock music embodies doesn't need to be one of invincibility.
It can easily portray struggle, injustice, unity, and an unwavering determination to stand up and be heard.
Sweet Emotion
We should briefly touch on the fact that there are two sides to Rock music. I
t's powerful and emotionally charged in some obvious and some less obvious ways. Enter the Rock ballad - use with caution.
A fantastic example is Aerosmith's Oscar winning, I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing for the Armageddon movie soundtrack.
A blockbuster movie, tears shed in every cinema, all while an anthem from one of the biggest Rock bands ever is playing.
You mustn't discount Rock music automatically when it comes to more subtle emotion.
We say use with caution because not everyone does it like Aerosmith, and things can get quite cheesy, quite fast.
